Plates by Master D

We're aiming to make most of our Christmas presents this year, and to foster a love of giving in our children. Luckily we also love being creative :-) and getting inspired by others.

We bought some nice plain white plates, one for each of us, and some special paint pens (DecoColour opaque paint markers) that you can use on ceramics.

I gave Master D a red, yellow, green and blue pen and let him go for it! He thought it was great fun getting to paint on plates!

He painted a picture of Little Miss Q on her plate. He told me as he painted, 'she has a big head and big eyes, two legs and two arms' - I think this is my favourite :-) (sorry, for some reason it keeps rotating the photo to the side)

A dinosaur in a cave for his (surprise, surprise!) (and again, on it's side):

 A rainbow for daddy:

And a dinosaur with a Wookie dog for me :-)

Now we are going to wrap them up to put under the tree for Christmas. Oh, and I couldn't help myself and gave it a go too :-)

Warm wishes, Kelly

  1. They are wonderful!! Thanks for sharing at Sharing Saturday!

  2. I love these. I remember that my aunt had some "drawn" plates when I was little. THanks for the memories. I'm sure these gifts will be loved.

  3. What a fun idea! This might be something we try next year. Grandparents would love them!:)

  4. These are adorable! I'm glad you joined in the fun, too. Thanks for sharing them with us on Monday Madness.

  5. i love your plates and what a fun memory you have created!!

  6. I totally remember doing this when I was little. My boys would love this :)

  7. Hi! I think that this is just great!
    I would LOVE for you to stop in and link this up in my Homeschooling on the Cheap! Link up. It is fairly new and I post it every Thursday. IT stays up all week. I'm looking for ideas on things homeschoolers can do. This looks like something for sure!

    Thank you, Kelli

  8. What great gifts! I am making most of our gifts this year too :-) Stopping by from Preschool Corner.

  9. great idea - the one at the bottom is fabulous!

    I found you via a linky and joined up to help boost your numbers - I'd love for you to do the same for me;

  10. I have always wanted to try the plate drawings. Do you have to bake these? I have seen kits at Michaels that require cooking the plate.

  11. What a FUN idea!! My kids would LOVE to eat off their very own, personalized plate!! Thanks for linking up to TGIF!! Merry Christmas,
    Beth =-)

  12. Thanks everyone, we are now off to get some mugs to do too :-) And Becca, we didn't bake these and apparently you don't have to with this type of paint pen. I am a little worried about the paint scratching off though, so I might do a test by baking one :-)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
